Have you ever wondered actually how much plastic waste your Group and it's members produce throughout the year?  Well Stroud & Tetbury District Scouts would like to challenge every Troop, Explorer Unit and Network within our District to build a kayak out of nothing but plastic bottles and waste plastics.

Date: Saturday 22nd September 2018 Time: TBC
Venue: 1st Fairford Scouts, Totterdown Lane, Fairford, GL7 4DF Wear: Uniform
Bring:    Further information will be issued closer to the event.
Cost: £5.00 per team to be paid in advance

On Saturday 22nd September we are looking at holding a race like none other seen in our District for a long time.  If your Troop is interested, from now until September we would like you to collect or scavenge as many plastic bottles, complete with lids, as possible.  Ideally the bottles all need to be the same size.  Use this time to talk to your Troop about how damaging plastic bottles are to the environment.  Show them images of some of the world’s most polluted waterways and ask them how they might prevent this.

Closer to September, now is time to construct your vessel.  Remember you will need to transport it to the lake at Fairford Scout Hut.

As well as testing your building skills by taking part in this boat race, young people and adults will also be able to take part in several taster sessions introducing them to the types of watersports you can take part in scouting.  As a minimum, the young people and adults taking part ing part must as a minimum be able to swim 50m and stay afloat in boating activity clothing for at least 5 minutes. (if you have any who cannot do this please ensure you have an adult willing to go on the water with them on a one to one ratio).

Registering your Troop's interest in this event couldn’t be easier, simply follow the link below and register your interest.  Final confirmation and payment will be required by 30th June 2018.
