District Commissioner Team Opportunity – Stroud & Tetbury District

Scouting is a worldwide organisation that provides opportunities for young people to develop and enables volunteer adults to develop skills too through training and support which can enhance CV’s and professional roles too.

As part of a District Commissioner (DC) Team in Stroud and Tetbury, you would be focussed on supporting adults to inspire and enable them to deliver amazing programmes to young people in their sections.

We believe the role of DC in such a large district is best supported by a small team who together will develop Scouting, support Adults and help ensure young people get Safe programmes that are full of fun and adventure.

The Stroud & Tetbury District is a proud and progressive group of Adults who support Scouting for over 1,000 Young People in Central Gloucestershire.

We are looking to recruit three team members that will have the following responsibilities:

DC Lead
Responsible for leading and inspiring the district leadership team, made up of a number of Assistant District Commissioners and Deputy District Commissioners. This role is the primary conduit to and from the district for all levels of communication. Supported by a District Executive committee, this person will provide leadership and direction for the whole district in partnership with Deputy DCs.

Deputy DC (Adult Support)
Our adult volunteers are pivotal in providing amazing scouting to young people. This can only happen when we support our adults, if it’s through training or transferring skills and valuing the adults we have.
This person will work with the Local Training Manager in the District to ensure that adults have access to training and support. This person will also support managers across the district to enable reviews to be undertaken and Adult awards to be applied for.

Deputy DC (Programme)
Our programme is the reason why Scouting has grown over 110 years. It is fun, challenging, full of adventure and provides development and skills for life for all young people. This programme is supported by Awards for every age group and culminates in the Queens Scout Award.
This role will focus on supporting our amazing adults to continue to deliver exciting balanced programmes, provide support for them to lead and undertake adventurous activities and help Young People maximise their opportunity to achieve the Scouting Awards.

Skills for all members of the team:


  • Good communication skills (electronic, oral and face to face)
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Plan, manage and organise own time and tasks
  • Some computer literacy


  • Able to inspire and lead adults
  • Able to provide vision and direction to help this district continue to progress
  • Knowledge of Scouting and the Quality Programme

All roles are supported within the district and have support from the wider county too. Training is provided to develop skills for all adults whether new to scouting, returning to scouting or scouting in a different role at this time.
